A Nebraska-born rancher and a Colorado-born, horse-crazy girl found each other along the way to start a whole new adventure back in 2010. Ty Barnes originating from North Platte, Nebraska, and finally making his home in Gothenburg, met Malloree through doing daywork for a nearby rancher. As fate would have it, they would have their ups and downs in the cattle industry, but they stayed strong and built a lifestyle they had always dreamed of. Along with their expanding beef cow herd, Malloree also started up The Milk House, a raw milk micro-dairy that has taken on a life of it's own!
They have built a family of their own with three kids: Dallee(15), Gus(13), and Woodrow(5). As a family, everyone has had to pull their weight. From gathering eggs to rounding up cattle, they all pitch in where needed.
Over the years, Ty and Malloree have shared their love of ranching with many people along the way. From taking the family's milk cow to school for show-and-tell to bringing people into their lives to experience a calf's birth or even riding along on summer pasture checks! They invite you to their ranch to stay overnight and experience what the quaint feel of ranch life is all about. The hustle and bustle of evening chores to an ocassional nicker from a horse in the distance!
Smilin' Ranch is convenient to Interstate 80 and only a 15-minute drive from Gothenburg or Brady, NE. Join us at the ranch for a place to stay in the comfort of your camper, self contained van or even Class A motor home! The Platte Valley is a place of endless adventure, and we are right in the heart of it!
